Working on the Tundra Buggy

It's been a exciting two days out on the tundra. We've had beautiful weather - sunny, 21 degrees F. or - 1 degree C., with just a slight breeze and a few flakes of snow occasionally.

The team drove to the launch site a few miles outside of Churchill in the pick-up. After transferring to Tundra Buggy One with our luggage we started the two hour journey out to the Tundra Buggy Lodge. Take a look at the pictures. The road was just about completely washed out by rains from the previous three weeks. We were literally tossed all over the place as we climbed over rocks, plunged into holes, and went through ice and deep water.

Once we got to the lodge, we docked our viewing platform to the docking bay and transferred our luggage, toured the lodge, got assigned our bunks and received an orientation on safety and rules. Then we were off again to find polar bears and practice our team presentation. We docked at the lodge again just before dark, was treated to a delicious dinner with the lodge guests and then turned in early.

Today we were surrounded by polar bears all around the lodge and we completed our first two web conferences. The conferences were challenging and fun. I'm learning a lot about instant changes and totally flexibility - no two conference sessions are the same - that's for sure.

Besides polar bears, we've seen golden eagles, arctic fox, snow buntings, ravens and coveys of ptarmigans. It has been awesome!
